It’s National Scrapbooking Day and to celebrate I have a new project to share with you called Turning 13. I made this mini for my daughter that recently celebrated turning 13 and it offers Advice for Life from her family and other important adults in her life. I did something similar to this when my older daughter turned 13 so I decided to do it again. I am really happy with how it turned out and grateful for everyone spending thoughtful time to craft their message.
I started with a plain white box. It is actually the card kit box from a Studio Calico purchase in case you are familiar with those. I have been saving it for a while thinking it would be good for a project and I was right – this was the perfect way to package the mini! I covered the box with papers, washi tape and other embellishments to make it decorative and personal, such as her birthday and initials that I put on the sides.
I devoted one embellished page for each person’s advice and the adjacent page to include a picture of that person. The size of the mini album is 4.25 x 6.25 inches. I did some of my favorite treatments in this album like stitching, washi tape layers with paper, enamel dots and dimensional elements. I did a simple single hole punch with ribbon to bind the pages together because I wanted it to be like a flip book.
On this page I didn’t have a large image of the person to use so I did something decorative with their name to give some design to the page.
I also did some stitching across the layers of Washi on this layout, and also on the next page, too. I did use a template to get the stitching even.
I made a pocket and insert card for this page because this friend had a long message.
This was a great project and I hope I’ve inspired some ideas for you!
